After selling Coast to Coast Australia magazine in their newsagency, Carole and Bill Gray knew exactly who to call when it came time to sell their own business!
“We knew that coverage was Australia-wide,” Carole said. “Talking with the staff and finding that their online presence was widespread made us want to give them a go.”
Carole and Bill owned Middlemount Newsagency for over 15 years, prompted to buy it largely due to its location.
“We had been wanting to be our own boss for a while,” said Carole.

“We looked at a lot of different business options, and a newsagency was the business that we kept going back to. A business in a rural area also appealed to us.”
The newsagency flourished under their care and Carole believes the point of difference with other similar operations was the personal connection they forged with their customers.
“That’s what we enjoyed. Being three hours from a major urban town or city, we were always aware that distance was on our side – but internet shopping was not! Sourcing products for our customers was always a priority for us.”
But when retirement beckoned, Carole and Bill looked at their options.
“We had the business on the market for a number of years with a business specific broker,” she said.
Wider exposure
“Our change to Coast to Coast and their connection with business sales of all types gave us a wider exposure. Interest in our business was immediate but then it was a matter of finding a buyer who was willing to work around and wait for Covid restrictions to ease.”
